Recreational/Social Events
Vacations
Our clients and staff vacation together annually. The retreat destination is decided by all of those attending and has included places such as the
Rocking Horse Ranch, Ocean City, the Pocono's, and Mystic, CT. The residents and staff work together at choreographing their trip to meet the interests of
everyone and have enjoyed many successful trips together.
Holidays
While many of our residents choose to spend the Holidays with their family or friends outside of Search for Change, the agency enjoys celebrating these special
times shared by staff and residents through planned festivities. There are functions for Thanksgiving, Easter, Passover, New Year's, and Christmas and Search for
Change always has a well attended Halloween costume party.
Family Days
Family Days began at Search for Change in 1989 setting a precedent for other residential services in the mental health community. Search for Change feels, and has
always felt, what today is commonplace philosophy; that the involvement of family and other close supports in the process of one's rehabilitation is fundamental
to that individual achieving success in living independently.
Throughout the Year
Recreation and social events are not just a few times a year. Many of our units get involved in activities suited to their residents. For example, our Putnam
Supported Housing Program has an organized basketball night. In the summer many of our residents attend Yankees/Mets games and many play softball in preparation
for the big game at our annual agency wide picnic. There is a Mid-Winter bash to break up the season and we have had Black History Month Celebrations, St.
Patrick's Day parties, St. Valentine's Day festivities, and summer barbeques in which all Search for Change constituents are invited.
